Brian Van Holt Reveals Leonardo DiCaprio’s Influence on Role
Brian Van Holt recently disclosed that his character, Wylie Ford, in the iconic series Sex and the City was inspired by actor Leonardo DiCaprio and his notorious group of friends, known as the “P***y Posse.” During an appearance on Kristin Davis’s podcast, Are You a Charlotte, Van Holt described how stories surrounding DiCaprio’s inner circle influenced his portrayal of the character.
In the August 18 episode, the 56-year-old actor shared insights into the creative process behind his role. “I don’t even know if this is true; this is probably all rumored and hearsay,” he noted, referencing the infamous group. “But there’s the P***y Posse. So that character Wylie Ford was loosely based on the P***y Posse shenanigans.” This group reportedly included not only DiCaprio but also actors Tobey Maguire, Lukas Haas, and Kevin Connolly, and was rumored to have gained a reputation for womanizing and various antics.
Van Holt expressed that the experience of playing Wylie Ford allowed him to “channel my inner douche bag.” He described the role as both “fulfilling creatively” and “very therapeutic.” The actor humorously mentioned that he approached the character with an intent to be “as douchey as possible” to accurately represent attributes he personally finds unappealing.
The character of Wylie Ford appeared in a storyline during season 2 of Sex and the City, where he played a celebrity heartthrob who briefly dated Charlotte York. Their relationship ended when Charlotte became uncomfortable with Wylie’s sexual demands.
Although Van Holt highlighted the P***y Posse as a foundational influence for his character, he did not specify if any one member directly inspired him. It is important to note that the show’s writers and producers have never officially confirmed the inspiration behind Wylie Ford, leaving some aspects of his character shrouded in mystery.
As fans of the series continue to celebrate its cultural impact, Van Holt’s revelations add a new layer of intrigue to the character dynamics within the beloved show. The discussions surrounding Sex and the City not only reflect the ongoing fascination with its characters but also highlight the interplay between real-life influences and fictional storytelling.
