The Humane Society for Greater Savannah is participating in the annual Clear the Shelter event, aiming to find homes for animals in need. As one of the largest no-kill shelters in the region, it plays a crucial role in the welfare of local animals. Each year, the organization assists approximately 15,000 animals, providing services that include adoptions, accepting owner surrenders, and operating pet pantries.

Currently, the shelter is operating at full capacity, housing 50 dogs, 30 cats, and several other animals ready for adoption. According to the Adoptions Manager, Nina Schulez, the Humane Society is committed to ensuring that every animal finds a loving home. “We pride ourselves on being a no-kill shelter because we believe that every furry friend deserves a chance,” Schulez stated.

While adoption is a significant focus, Schulez emphasized that there are various ways to support the Humane Society. Individuals can consider fostering an animal, which allows them to provide temporary care while a permanent home is sought. Additionally, potential adopters can take advantage of a “trial run” option, giving them an opportunity to see if a pet fits into their lifestyle before finalizing an adoption.

Schulez encourages the community to consider adopting rather than purchasing from breeders. “There are thousands of animals in the U.S. that are homeless. By adopting from a shelter, you not only save a life, but you also gain a pet that has been fully vetted, behaviorally tested, microchipped, and spayed,” she explained. The shelter staff can provide detailed information about each animal’s behavior and needs, helping potential adopters make informed decisions.

For those interested in supporting the Humane Society for Greater Savannah, various options are available, including adoption, fostering, donating, or volunteering. More information can be found on their official website, where the community can learn how to make a difference in the lives of local animals.

As the Clear the Shelter event unfolds, the Humane Society for Greater Savannah stands ready to connect loving families with pets in need, promoting a message of compassion and responsible pet ownership.
