RVD Reflects on John Cena’s Farewell Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event
WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam (RVD) shared his thoughts on John Cena‘s recent farewell match, where Cena tapped out to Gunther during the event held at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. last weekend. RVD attended the match, which marked a significant moment in Cena’s storied career, and reflected on the bittersweet ending of the bout in a conversation with TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast.
During the podcast, RVD expressed that he was not surprised by Cena’s decision to submit, indicating that he anticipated it. “I expected it, I guess,” he said, adding that what disappointed him was the match’s brevity. RVD wished for more action, stating he would have preferred the match to extend for an additional 20 minutes.
“I was just kinda bummed that it was over and so final at the moment; there’s no going back,” RVD continued. “They rang the bell; that match is over. It’s just like, you know, it’s coming, but it doesn’t make that moment any more enjoyable or whatever. I kind of was disappointed just ’cause I would’ve liked it to go another 20 minutes; I was having fun. Otherwise, I kind of expected that to happen,” he added.
RVD received a warm reception from the audience, who erupted in applause when he was introduced by commentators. His presence at Cena’s retirement match highlighted the camaraderie and respect shared among wrestlers, especially those who have faced each other in the ring.
The conversation provided a glimpse into the emotions surrounding Cena’s farewell, as fans and fellow wrestlers alike came together to celebrate his impactful career. RVD’s comments resonate with many who have followed Cena’s journey in the world of professional wrestling.
