Semi Tractor-Trailer Fire on U.S. Highway 52 Near Pine Island

A semi tractor-trailer caught fire on U.S. Highway 52 north of Pine Island, Minnesota, on December 9, 2025. Fortunately, no injuries were reported following the incident, which occurred around 12:15 p.m. According to the Pine Island Fire Department, the fire ignited between the cab and the trailer of the vehicle.

Firefighters responded promptly to the scene. They deployed two handlines to extinguish the flames. Before the responders arrived, the driver had already utilized a fire extinguisher to help control the situation and limit the fire’s spread. Fortunately, the fire did not reach the cab of the semi, as confirmed by the fire department’s statement.

While firefighting crews worked to manage the blaze, traffic on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 52 was reduced to one lane. The cause of the fire is suspected to be a blowout of a tire on the cab, as indicated in the fire department’s report.

Authorities including the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene to assist with traffic control and ensure safety.

As of now, the extent of the damages remains unclear, but the quick actions of the driver and responding emergency services helped prevent any injuries from occurring.
