Walter F. Currie, a prominent figure in the aerospace sales industry, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by family after a courageous ten-year battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Kentucky, Currie was born on February 11, 1934, in Louisville to Floyd and Stella Currie.
Currie’s journey began in 1950 when he met his future wife, Catherine Louise Shelburn, while they were both students at Atherton High School. Their shared experiences continued as they attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where Currie pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, graduating in 1956. During his time at university, he joined the Air Force ROTC and became a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Career and Contributions
In 1961, Currie founded Currie Aerospace Associates, an independent sales organization representing national electronics manufacturers. The company had humble beginnings, operating from a spare bedroom in their rented home on Louvre Avenue in Lake Conway Estates. Currie served as the sales engineer while Catherine took on the role of secretary. Over the years, the business evolved, eventually becoming known as Currie, Peak, and Frazier, Inc. It grew to employ 36 people, reflecting Currie’s dedication and leadership in the aerospace sector.
A devoted supporter of the University of Kentucky, Currie remained a passionate Wildcat fan throughout his life. He consistently contributed to the university and was a familiar figure at athletic events, proudly donning Kentucky Blue.
Currie’s legacy extends beyond his professional achievements. He was a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, deeply invested in the lives of his family. His two sons, Scott Currie and Beau Currie, along with five grandchildren, are a testament to the family values he cherished. Currie instilled in them a love for learning and a curiosity about how things work, always eager to share his knowledge.
Final Arrangements and Legacy
Walter F. Currie is survived by his wife, Catherine Currie, sons Scott Currie of Mosier, Oregon, and Beau Currie of Windermere, Florida, and five grandchildren: Trevor Currie of Missoula, Montana, Lucas Currie of Playa Grande, Costa Rica, Charles Summers of New York City, Nathan Currie of Hailey, Idaho, and Amanda Summers of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Currie family will hold a private memorial service at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, where Currie’s cremated remains will be interred next to his parents, Floyd and Stella. This location holds historical significance, having been designated by Colonel George E. Currie in 1894.
Walter F. Currie’s impact on both his family and the aerospace industry will be remembered fondly by those who knew him. His commitment to education and his dedication to his profession reflect a life well-lived, inspiring future generations to pursue their dreams with passion and perseverance.
