Summit County Ski Areas Blanketed in Snow as Winter Storm Hits

The winter season has officially arrived in Summit County, with significant snowfall reported across ski areas on December 6, 2025. After a slow start to the season, local resorts received impressive amounts of fresh powder, setting the stage for an exciting winter sports experience.

Ski areas in the region recorded substantial snow accumulations over the past 24 hours. Notably, Copper Mountain reported a remarkable 10 inches of fresh snow, while both Arapahoe Basin Ski Area and Keystone Resort recorded 9 inches each. Breckenridge Ski Resort followed closely with 8 inches, and Loveland Ski Area received 5 inches.

Winter Storm Warning and Avalanche Alerts

Summit County is currently under a winter storm warning that will remain in effect until 23:00 local time on Saturday. The storm is anticipated to continue delivering additional snowfall, accompanied by gusting winds that could affect visibility and travel conditions.

In addition to the storm warning, the Park Range and Gore Range have issued an avalanche warning. The backcountry is experiencing extremely dangerous avalanche conditions, rated at Level 4 out of 5. Authorities strongly advise against travel in backcountry avalanche terrain until 17:00 on Saturday, as the risk remains high.
