The Auburn Tigers added a key player to their recruiting class on the final night of the early signing period. Mason Mathis, a three-star offensive tackle from Milton, Florida, announced his commitment to Auburn on December 22, 2023. Previously committed to the University of South Florida (USF) under head coach Alex Golesh and offensive line coach Tyler Hudanick, Mathis made the decision to join the Tigers, marking a significant addition to their roster.

Mathis is currently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1,646 player in the nation and the 138th-best offensive tackle. His commitment brings the total number of signees in Auburn’s 2023 class to 18, solidifying their efforts to strengthen the offensive line. Mathis is the second offensive tackle in this recruiting class, joining fellow linemen Wilson Zierer, Parker Pritchett, and former USF commit Mykall Lundy-Foster.

Despite the addition of Mathis, Auburn currently ranks 41st in 247Sports team recruiting rankings, while On3 places them at No. 46. These rankings reflect the challenges the Tigers face in enhancing their roster amid a competitive recruiting landscape.

As the early signing period concludes, Auburn continues to focus on filling gaps within their team. The recent commitment from Mathis signifies their ongoing efforts to improve their offensive capabilities. The coaching staff, led by Golesh, is optimistic about the future of the program as they integrate new talent and refine their existing roster.

Auburn’s recruiting strategy not only emphasizes the importance of offensive linemen but also highlights the need for depth across various positions. With 18 total signees, the Tigers are laying the groundwork for a promising future as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The addition of Mathis is a testament to the Tigers’ commitment to building a strong team foundation. As they move forward, Auburn fans will be eager to see how these new recruits contribute to the program’s growth and success.
