Mesa LDS Temple Unveils Stunning Christmas Lights Display
The Christmas lights display at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in Mesa, Arizona, has officially begun, welcoming visitors for the 2023 holiday season. This beloved tradition, which started in 1979, has grown significantly since its inception, transforming from a modest arrangement into a spectacular annual showcase.
Preparations for the lighting display begin as early as September, with church members dedicating their time and efforts to ensure the temple grounds are beautifully adorned. According to Suzette Tyler, Director of the Mesa Arizona Temple Christmas Lights, the display includes a staggering 23,000 lights on the star atop the temple and an impressive 43,200 lights illuminating palm trees located just outside the property.
Expanded Features and Community Involvement
This year’s display features ten distinct installations that highlight the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Visitors can also explore a nearby visitor center, which houses a special exhibition of 150 nativities sourced from various cultures around the world. Tyler noted, “It’s divided into 63 areas, with different congregations or stakes from the community each contributing 10 to 30 volunteers to help with their designated sections.”
The community spirit shines throughout the event, as numerous individuals come together to create a festive atmosphere. This collaborative effort not only enhances the beauty of the display but also fosters a sense of unity among local congregations.
Details for Visitors
The lights are illuminated nightly from 17:00 to 22:00, and the display will remain open to the public until December 30. Admission is completely free, making it an accessible and enjoyable holiday experience for families and individuals alike.
As the holiday season unfolds, the Christmas lights at the Mesa Temple stand as a testament to community involvement and the spirit of celebration, inviting all to partake in its beauty and significance.
