John Cena, the renowned 17-time WWE World Champion and actor, has announced his permanent retirement from professional wrestling. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Cena expressed his reflections on a career spanning over two decades, stating emphatically, “I’ll never wrestle again.”
Cena’s Final Performance Approaches
As he prepares for his last match, Cena shared insights into his decision to retire after a remarkable 23 years in the ring. He remarked, “We’re down to our last day,” highlighting the significance of this moment in his life and career. Cena noted that he had announced his retirement 15 months in advance, a first in WWE history, where many superstars typically linger for “one more match.” He confirmed, “I am absolutely 100% done.”
The actor, best known for his role in The Peacemaker, revealed that his final WWE appearance will take place on December 13, 2025, during the event titled Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII, which will be streamed on Peacock. He reiterated, “I’ll never wrestle again,” and humorously challenged Kimmel, saying that if he did return, Kimmel could play back the interview and call him a liar.
A Connection with Fans
Reflecting on his extensive career, Cena expressed gratitude for the connection he has built with fans around the world. “Touring the world in this last year, it’s really been beautiful,” he said, emphasizing the importance of fan interactions and the stories they shared with him. He wanted to provide ample notice of his retirement so that fans could process their emotions and find closure.
“I wanted to give people so much lead time because being able to perform for two decades and people allowing me into their living rooms week after week, you do feel a connection with people,” he explained. Cena encouraged fans to tune in for his final event, expressing enthusiasm for the experience, despite not knowing who his opponent will be.
Cena began his wrestling journey in 1999 and secured his first WWE contract in 2001. He rose to prominence following his debut on SmackDown! in 2002, ultimately becoming one of the most recognized figures in sports entertainment history. His remarkable achievement of winning the World Championship 17 times remains unmatched.
