Hershey’s Launches Dubai Chocolate Bar, Inspires Local Treats
Hershey’s has entered the growing trend of Dubai-inspired confectionery with the launch of a limited-edition chocolate bar this week. This new creation, which will be available starting on October 5, 2023, features a chocolate shell filled with pistachio and crunchy pastry pieces, drawing inspiration from the popular Arabic dessert known as knafeh. Priced at $8.99, the company plans to distribute only 10,000 bars through Gopuff in select cities, including Philadelphia, New York City, and Chicago. Given the limited supply, these bars are expected to sell out quickly.
The Dubai chocolate phenomenon originated from Dubai-based candy company FIX, which introduced this unique treat a few years ago. The combination of rich chocolate and nutty pistachio has gained popularity, particularly on social media platforms like TikTok, where it has inspired a variety of desserts, such as brownies, crepes, and milkshakes.
Local Spots Embrace the Dubai Chocolate Craze
In addition to Hershey’s offering, the Philadelphia area boasts several establishments serving their own takes on this trendy treat.
Abu El Ezz Sweets, located at 11 Bustleton Pike in Feasterville-Trevose, features a wide selection of Dubai chocolate products, including both large and small bars in milk and dark varieties. They also offer unique heart-shaped options and trays of mini chocolates.
For those seeking a dessert after a hearty meal, Aroma Bakery at 160 N 3rd St. in Old City presents a Dubai chocolate tart and cheesecake. The newly opened coffee shop also features a pistachio eclair, reminiscent of the traditional Middle Eastern dessert.
In Fishtown and University City, Haraz Coffee House offers a brownie topped with layers of pistachio and chocolate. The café, which opened its first location in April, has quickly expanded with a second venue in October.
Those looking for a beverage option can visit Kung Fu Tea, which has multiple locations. Their Dubai Chocolate Wow drink features chocolate milk, pistachio cream, crispy kataifi, and brown sugar boba, offering a refreshing twist on the classic dessert.
Diverse Offerings Across Philadelphia
Several other businesses in the area have also embraced the Dubai chocolate trend. Le Souk Market at 7952 Oxford Ave. in Fox Chase serves a variety of desserts, including a strawberry cup and ice cream sundae, both featuring Dubai chocolate.
Mocha Melt Cafe, located at 124 Market St. in Old City, offers a crepe filled with pistachio butter and kadayif, topped with milk chocolate and optional strawberries or bananas.
For candy enthusiasts, Sweet As Fudge at 1136 Arch St. in Reading Terminal Market presents nine different Dubai flavor combinations, including a pistachio fudge topped with chocolate and crunchy kadayif.
The Turkish Brew at 1444 N 7th St. in Ludlow serves a Dubai cheesecake, chocolate bar, and pudding, while those looking to indulge can find a 24-carat gold-covered Dubai chocolate for an extravagant $289.99.
Finally, Wilts Berries, also at 1136 Arch St., offers a unique take on their classic cups, layering strawberries with milk chocolate, pistachio cream, and crunchy kadayif pieces.
As the Dubai chocolate trend continues to expand, both Hershey’s and local businesses are capitalizing on its growing popularity, providing residents and visitors alike with a rich array of flavors and experiences inspired by Middle Eastern delights.
