Soyou Reveals Secrets to Sustaining Weight Loss After 10kg Drop
Former SISTAR member Soyu has candidly shared her journey of weight loss and maintenance following a significant drop of 10 kg (22 lbs). In a recent video on her YouTube channel, Soyougi, she discussed the changes in her lifestyle and fitness regimen that helped her achieve and sustain her current weight.
Personal Insights on Weight Loss Journey
Soyou expressed her surprise when she checked her InBody analysis, revealing that she had reached 49 kg. “I always told myself never to go below 50 kg, but when I measured a few days ago, I was shocked,” she stated. She further noted that her previous InBody score, which had been in the 80s, had dropped to the low 70s. Concerned by the reduction in her skeletal muscle mass, she shared that it had fallen to the low 20s, leading her to encounter terms like “weak” and “underweight” for the first time.
In response to these results, Soyou has shifted her focus to enhancing her strength. She now incorporates heavy lower-body, abdominal, and back workouts into her routine. Identifying as a “maintenance dieter,” she has publicly outlined her diet and exercise strategy to inspire others.
Dietary Changes and Exercise Routine
When it comes to her exercise habits, Soyou typically engages in training sessions lasting up to three hours, combining cardiovascular exercises with focused strength workouts. On the dietary front, she practices a unique approach: consuming only one to two meals a day, predominantly in the morning or afternoon, while keeping her dinner very light. “I just have a taste,” she explained.
Soyou admitted that she now struggles to finish meals she once enjoyed, such as ramen or rice, often limiting herself to just 1/4 to 1/2 a bowl of rice when she does indulge. Notably, she has eliminated cheat days from her regimen, stating, “If I have a cheat day, I completely let go. So now I just eat whatever I want, but I stop the moment my hunger is satisfied.”
One of her key tips for maintaining weight is to drink plenty of water before meals, which helps her feel full more quickly. She emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated throughout the day.
Despite the positive aspects of her weight loss, Soyou did not shy away from discussing the challenges. “After losing so much, I get dizzy easily, and my orthostatic hypotension got worse,” she noted. She cautioned that weight loss can occur rapidly when one is already at a low weight, urging others to prioritize healthy eating and proper supplementation during their dieting journeys.
As she embarks on a new month-long lifestyle project, Soyou aims to enhance her fitness further, focusing on building muscle and overall health. Her journey serves as a reminder of the complexities of weight management and the dedication required to achieve lasting results.
