Billie Starkz Remains Top Contender for ROH Title Despite Persephone’s Challenge
A recent update from Fightful Select indicates that Billie Starkz is viewed as the long-term contender to challenge for the ROH Women’s World Championship, currently held by Athena. Even with Persephone booked as the title challenger for the upcoming Final Battle event, the internal expectation remains that Starkz is the favored successor.
Despite Persephone’s recent momentum, which secured her a shot at the title, the report clarifies that this match will not influence the championship’s long-term direction. During a Q&A session, Sean Ross Sapp, a noted wrestling journalist, emphasized that internal plans have consistently favored Starkz, regardless of her previous losses to Athena.
Athena’s championship reign has notably surpassed 1,000 days, marking a significant milestone in her career. Sapp pointed out that Athena may have preferred to lose the title to Starkz earlier, yet creative decisions surrounding the ongoing storyline involving Mercedes Moné have affected the scheduling of title changes.
As it stands, Persephone’s upcoming match does not appear to alter the planned trajectory for the ROH Women’s division. Her string of victories led to her Final Battle opportunity, but the update suggests that Starkz remains the anticipated challenger for the title moving forward.
Fans can follow the developments as the situation unfolds, with ROH events airing on the Honor Club platform. The anticipation surrounding the women’s division continues to build, particularly with the potential for Starkz to challenge Athena in the near future.
