Fan Purchases Heart-Shaped Island in Korea for SEVENTEEN’s Jeonghan
A fan of the K-pop group SEVENTEEN has made headlines by purchasing a heart-shaped island in Jeollanam-do, Korea. The announcement, shared on social media, revealed that the fan, known as 神在 (@lakukami), aims to develop the island as a tribute to Jeonghan, a member of the group, expressing their admiration and devotion. The island, accessible via the 1004 Bridge from Mokpo, is intended to be a place where fans can gather and relax.
The fan’s post, which quickly went viral, indicated plans to complete a name change for the island and initiate development before Jeonghan’s retirement. “The idea comes from something Jeonghan said before: he wanted to become someone like an island where people can rest,” the fan explained. They envision the space, named “JeongjeongLand,” as a haven for fellow fans to connect and unwind.
Responses to the announcement have been mixed. While many supporters praised the gesture as a heartfelt tribute, others expressed concern about the nature of such extreme fandom. In a follow-up tweet, 神在 defended their decision, stating, “This is something that I could do for him when he deserves the world.” They emphasized that the purchase was made out of love, with no expectations of reciprocation.
The fan highlighted their commitment to Jeonghan, noting that in the last nine years, they have shown unwavering support. They also pointed out that, despite the group’s management company HYBE not providing significant gifts for Jeonghan’s 10th debut anniversary, they wanted to celebrate the milestone in a special way. “He deserves the universe when I could only afford a small island,” they added.
The story has captivated many online, with some users jokingly asking if they could buy the entertainment company PLEDIS, which manages SEVENTEEN, given the fan’s apparent wealth. The overall discourse around this purchase reflects both the deep connections some fans feel with their idols and the complexities of fandom in the age of social media.
As the development of “JeongjeongLand” progresses, it will be interesting to see how this project unfolds and what it ultimately means for the relationship between fans and their idols in the K-pop world.
