Shedeur Sanders Set for NFL Starting Debut Against Raiders
Shedeur Sanders is poised to make his starting debut as quarterback for the Cleveland Browns against the Las Vegas Raiders today. The Browns’ offensive line will feature both starting tackles, including right tackle Jack Conklin, who has been declared active despite previously being questionable due to a knee injury. This marks a significant boost for Sanders as he navigates his first game as a starter.
Conklin suffered the injury in last week’s 23-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Although he was limited in practice throughout the week, Conklin managed to rally and will take the field. His counterpart, left tackle Cam Robinson, also faced a knee issue but participated fully in practice by Friday and is free of any injury designation. This continuity in the offensive line is crucial, as it will be the same combination for the fourth consecutive game and the fifth time in the last six outings.
Sanders Faces Challenges Ahead
As Sanders prepares for the challenge, he must contend with the formidable edge rusher Maxx Crosby. Crosby has recorded six sacks and six batted passes this season, making him a significant threat to the Browns’ offensive strategy. Last week, during the second half against the Ravens, Sanders struggled, completing just four of 16 passes for 47 yards, resulting in a 13.5 quarterback rating. He did, however, provide a glimmer of hope for the Browns by delivering a potential game-winning touchdown pass to rookie receiver Gage Larvadain, which was broken up by cornerback Chidobe Awuzie.
Today’s game represents a fresh opportunity for Sanders, who has now had a week of practice with the starting unit and a game plan tailored to his strengths. The Browns are optimistic that this preparation will enhance his performance on the field. Additionally, starting tight end David Njoku is set to play after missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to a knee injury; he returned to practice on Friday without any injury designation.
In terms of team composition, the Browns have announced their inactives for the game, which include quarterback Dillon Gabriel, running back Raheim Sanders, guard Zak Zinter, tackle Cornelius Lucas, wide receiver Jamari Thrash, and defensive end Alex Wright. In a notable move, the team elevated quarterback Bailey Zappe from the practice squad, adding depth to their roster.
As the Browns aim for victory today, the combination of a steady offensive line and a focused approach will be pivotal for Shedeur Sanders. Fans are eager to see how he adapts to the pressures of his first start in the NFL, and whether he can lead his team to success against the Raiders.
