UAB Football Player Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Teammates
A football player from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is in police custody following an incident that left two teammates injured. The assault occurred on the morning of September 30, 2023, at the Football Operations Center, just hours before the Blazers were scheduled to compete against the University of South Florida.
According to the UAB Police Department, the altercation involved three players and is being treated as a stabbing. The university confirmed that two players required medical attention and were transported to a local hospital. Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported that both individuals are in stable condition.
In a statement, UAB expressed gratitude for the players’ recovery, saying, “We’re grateful to report that two players injured in an incident this morning at the Football Operations Building are in stable condition. Our thoughts are with them and their families as they recover.”
The player believed to be the suspect, identified as Daniel Mincey, has been taken into custody. As the investigation unfolds, UAB has opted not to release the names of the players involved, citing the ongoing nature of the inquiry.
Despite the incident, the UAB football team chose to proceed with their scheduled game against South Florida at 14:00 local time at the Protective Stadium. UAB emphasized that the safety and well-being of its students remain the institution’s top priority.
The university stated, “Given patient privacy and the ongoing investigation, we have no further comment at this time.”
As the situation develops, further updates from the university and law enforcement are anticipated.
