Stephen Amell Discusses Ambitious Plans for Cancelled Heels Season 3

Two years after the cancellation of the acclaimed series Heels, star Stephen Amell has shared his vision for a potential third season. The show, which debuted on Starz in August 2021, delved into the world of professional wrestling, focusing on the fierce rivalry between brothers Jack and Ace Spade following their father’s death. Despite receiving positive reviews and maintaining a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Heels was cancelled in September 2023 alongside several other original series from the network.

Recently, the series gained renewed attention with its addition to Netflix, prompting fans to call for its revival. During the Arrowverse Heroes panel at Motor City Comic Con, Amell discussed the show’s future and reflected on its two-season run. According to Amell, there was hope for four or five seasons to further develop the story.

In his comments, Amell revealed that a potential season 3 would have included a significant time jump, featuring Jack moving on from the small town of Duffy, Georgia, to pursue opportunities in the “big leagues.” While the first two seasons primarily centered around Duffy, the third installment would have aimed to broaden the narrative scope.

Amell stated, “I know that our current showrunner for the second season, Mike O’Malley, had an idea that the third season would actually jump forward a little bit in time. I think that overall, the idea with my character, with Jack, is that he eventually gets to the big leagues, so he eventually does get out of Duffy.”

The first season hinted at the existence of a fictional major wrestling promotion within its universe, distinct from real-life organizations like WWE. Amell’s comments align with O’Malley’s earlier statements regarding Jack’s journey and the injury he sustained in what became the show’s final episode.

As for the possibility of Heels returning, both Amell and O’Malley have expressed optimism. However, there has been no official announcement regarding a revival. The show’s visibility on Netflix, where it shares a home with WWE content, has led to speculation about its future.

In a discussion about the chances of a revival, Michael Waldron, the writer known for projects such as Avengers: Doomsday, noted that the potential for Heels to return remains alive as long as it attracts an audience. He commented that many shows have found new life after gaining traction on streaming platforms, which could bode well for the wrestling drama.

Fans of Heels continue to hold out hope for a revival, eager to see how Jack Spade’s story might evolve in a potential third season. With its compelling characters and the rich backdrop of professional wrestling, the series has left a lasting impact, and the conversation around its future is far from over.
