Former Northlands Director Everett Jones Joins Love in Action
Everett C. Jones Sr., formerly the executive director of Northlands Rescue Mission, has accepted a new role as executive director of Love in Action, a faith-based nonprofit in Grand Forks. His appointment follows his termination from Northlands, which Jones claims was in retaliation for a disagreement with a board member. The announcement was made on November 14, 2023, a move that has drawn mixed reactions from the community.
Doris Lebby, co-founder and board president of Love in Action, expressed her enthusiasm about Jones joining the organization, stating, “I’m looking forward to the next level that God is taking Love in Action with Everett’s leadership.” She emphasized that his expertise will significantly enhance the operational aspects of the nonprofit, which has been instrumental in serving underserved populations in the area.
Jones, who has a history of leadership in community service, stated that he is honored to serve Love in Action and the Greater Grand Forks community. In a press release, he mentioned that he will forgo compensation during his transition into the role to ensure that resources can be directed toward stabilizing the organization. “Love in Action is sustained solely through the kindness and generosity of donors — we receive no government funding or grants at this time,” Jones explained. “I want to honor that sacrifice with my own.”
Community Impact and Future Goals
Founded by Lebby and Janet Nelson, Love in Action has evolved into a community hub aimed at connecting people who feel isolated from resources and spiritual support. The organization has grown to become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, expanding its mission to unite churches, organizations, and volunteers in collaborative service. Its initiatives include the Money in Your Hands Project and open mic nights, which are designed to foster healing, creativity, and authentic community expression.
Under Jones’ leadership, Love in Action is expected to continue its mission of strengthening community ties and expanding outreach. The organization aims to create spaces for healing, worship, and creativity while serving all individuals with dignity and compassion. “Love in Action is committed to being a place where faith is lived, love is shown, and hope is restored,” the release stated.
Kristen Wilde, board vice president, reflected on the transition, suggesting that sometimes a closure, like Jones’ previous position, leads to new opportunities. “Everett shares our same heartbeat for serving this incredible community that we are honored to serve,” she remarked, emphasizing that this timing feels divinely orchestrated.
Nelson also expressed excitement about Jones joining the team, highlighting his deep commitment and passion for service. She believes that Love in Action is poised to enter a new season of growth, compassion, and impact under his guidance.
As Jones embarks on this new chapter, he remains committed to the core values that have driven Love in Action since its inception: empathy, community service, and spiritual connection. With his leadership, the organization aims to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves.
