Akron Kicks Off Holiday Season with Santa and Ice Skating Festivities
The city of Akron will officially launch its holiday season with the return of the Winterblast festivities at Lock 3 on November 28, 2024. The event will begin with the Welcome Santa Illuminated Parade at 6 p.m., starting at the intersection of Cedar Street and South Main Street. The parade will feature decorated floats, costumed characters, and the beloved figure of Santa Claus, making its way down South Main Street to West Bowery Street.
Following the parade, attendees can look forward to the lighting of the Lock 3 Christmas tree, accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display. This annual celebration is not only a festive kickoff for the community but also an opportunity for families to enjoy a range of holiday-themed attractions.
In addition to the parade, visitors will have the chance to meet Archie the Talking Snowman and view vintage holiday displays from O’Neil’s, which will feature beloved classics such as The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan. Lock 3 will open its doors for the winter season on the same day, offering ice skating, ice bumper cars, ice bikes, and cozy fire pits for all ages to enjoy.
Winterblast Activities and Opening Hours
The Winterblast festivities will run with specific hours to accommodate visitors. Lock 3 will operate as follows:
– Mondays and Tuesdays: Closed
– Wednesdays: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Thursdays: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Fridays: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
– Saturdays: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
– Sundays: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
New this year, Lock 3, in collaboration with Summit Artspace, will host the Artists Weekend Holiday Markets. These markets will take place on November 28 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on November 29-30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Local arts and crafts vendors will showcase their work, and admission to the markets is free, making it an ideal outing for families and holiday shoppers alike.
