Averi M. Turner Sworn in as New Minneapolis Park Commissioner
Averi M. Turner has officially taken the oath of office as the new Commissioner for District 2 of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, following the resignation of her predecessor, Becka Thompson. The board voted to appoint Turner on November 5, 2023, after an open application period that ran from October 10 to October 24, 2023. Turner will fulfill the remaining term, which is set to conclude on January 2, 2026.
Turner brings a wealth of experience to the role, characterized by her extensive background in education and community engagement. She has served as an educator, an International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator, and a leader in instructional coaching. Her involvement in various state boards and advisory committees has seen her advocate for equity, leadership development, and enhanced opportunities for youth. These qualifications are expected to benefit her approach to park stewardship in District 2.
