A remarkable collection of vintage vehicles owned by former Walmart Chief Operating Officer Jack C. Shewmaker will be auctioned this week in Texas. On October 31, 2023, Mecum Auctions will host the sale at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, featuring a total of 24 classic cars and trucks spanning from 1919 to 1962.

All vehicles in Shewmaker’s collection will be sold at “no reserve,” ensuring that each item finds a new owner regardless of the final bid. The auction is expected to attract collectors and enthusiasts eager to acquire a piece of automotive history.

Among the vehicles on offer are notable models such as a 1939 Chevrolet 1/2 Ton Pickup, a 1951 Chevrolet 3100 5-Window Pickup, and a 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Rampside Pickup. Other highlights include a 1919 Ford Model TT Truck and a 1927 Chevrolet Series AA Capitol Utility Express Truck.

Shewmaker’s legacy at Walmart began when he was hired by Sam Walton in 1970. Over the years, he held various key positions, including district manager, president, and vice chairman. He played a crucial role in shaping Walmart’s marketing language, coining terms such as “rollback” for sales and “Everyday Low Prices,” which became integral to the company’s identity.

After retiring in 1988, Shewmaker continued to serve on Walmart’s board until 2008. He passed away in 2010 at the age of 72 and was posthumously inducted into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame in 2012, honoring his substantial contributions to the retail giant.

The auction presents a unique opportunity for collectors to own a piece of Shewmaker’s legacy, reflecting both the evolution of American automotive design and the storied history of Walmart. Interested bidders can view the full list of vehicles on the Mecum Auctions website, where additional details and images are available.
