The Philadelphia Eagles secured a decisive victory over the New York Giants, winning 38-20 on October 15, 2023, at Lincoln Financial Field. This win marked their most balanced performance of the season as they head into a bye week, showcasing strength across all position groups.

Quarterback and Running Back Shine

Jalen Hurts delivered a stellar performance, completing 15 of 20 passes for 179 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions, resulting in a passer rating of 141.5. He also contributed 22 rushing yards, demonstrating his ability to manage the game effectively. “When you’re able to run the ball efficiently like that, it kind of gives you a flow a bit,” Hurts stated. His focus on maintaining protection checks allowed the Eagles to capitalize on offensive opportunities.

The running game was equally impressive, as the Eagles featured two running backs surpassing the century mark. Saquon Barkley led the charge with a 65-yard touchdown on his first carry, finishing the game with 150 rushing yards on 14 attempts. Tank Bigsby also shone with nine carries for 104 yards, helping to close out the game with powerful runs. Head Coach Nick Sirianni praised the collective effort, stating, “Anytime you rush for that many yards, it takes everybody.”

Strong Receiving Corps and Offensive Line

Despite the absence of star receiver A.J. Brown, the receiving corps stepped up. DeVonta Smith led with six receptions for 84 yards, while Jahan Dotson caught a crucial 40-yard touchdown pass. Hurts acknowledged the different rhythm without Brown but commended his teammates for making significant plays.

The offensive line performed admirably, even without starting center Cam Jurgens. Brett Toth stepped in seamlessly, contributing to a remarkable 276 rushing yards on 33 carries, averaging 8.4 yards per attempt. Although the Eagles allowed four sacks, their overall dominance at the line of scrimmage was evident. Hurts noted, “Those guys up front played their tails off.”

Defensively, the Eagles’ line also made a significant impact, recording five sacks against rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and limiting the Giants to 68 rushing yards. The interior defense, led by Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, was pivotal in disrupting the Giants’ offensive flow.

The linebacker unit, led by Zack Baun, remained active throughout the game, with Baun himself registering a sack and multiple tackles for loss. Tight coverage from the cornerbacks ensured that the Giants could not exploit any major openings, while the safety unit maintained disciplined play and prevented consistent seam opportunities.

Special teams contributed to the overall success, with kicker Jake Elliott converting all five extra points and hitting a 40-yard field goal, despite one missed attempt. Coverage units displayed some lapses, but nothing that significantly impacted the game.

Coaching played a crucial role in the Eagles’ success. Sirianni emphasized the team’s balanced approach, leveraging the run game and exploiting the Giants’ secondary weaknesses. “This was a good team win that took everybody,” he stated, highlighting the collaborative effort that defined the game.

With this victory, the Eagles demonstrated their capability to perform cohesively as a unit. As they prepare for their bye week, they will aim to build on this momentum for the remainder of the season.
