Logan Cooley Shines with Hat Trick as Utah Defeats St. Louis

In a remarkable display of skill, Logan Cooley netted a natural hat trick within a span of just 4:48 in the first period, leading the Utah Mammoth to a 7-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night. Cooley’s standout performance not only included three goals but also an assist on the opening goal scored by Ian Cole.

Cooley’s scoring spree began with a powerful one-timer from the slot, utilizing a precise pass from Dylan Guenther at the 6:07 mark. He quickly followed up with a backhander that slipped between the pads of Blues goalie Joel Hofer at 7:57, prompting a goaltending change as Jordan Binnington took over in net. Cooley capped off his first-period dominance with a power-play goal at 9:05, marking his second career hat trick—his first occurred with Arizona against Nashville in March 2024.

“Everyone talks about his shooting, but I think his playmaking is really underrated,” Cooley noted regarding Guenther’s contributions. “I think we’re really starting to figure out where each other likes to be. And I think it’s going to continue to get better.”

Utah’s head coach, Andre Tourigny, praised Cooley’s physical strength and competitiveness, stating, “He’s really strong in his battle. His balance is really, really good. And, like I said, his competitiveness, I think, helped him a lot in that sense.”

Despite a slight dip in momentum during the second period, Cooley expressed satisfaction with the overall performance. “It’s obviously awesome scoring in this league, and it was a great game,” he said. “I thought we kind of let off a little bit in the second, but overall, it was a great team win.”

Cooley’s teammate, Clayton Keller, also commended the young star, saying, “Cools is, you know, one of my favorites. Just the way he plays, his speed, skill, he can really do it all, and I believe in him so much, so it’s great to see him get rewarded. And that’s a heck of a period—three and one… that’s tough to beat.”

This victory marks the Mammoth’s fifth consecutive win, positioning them strongly as they move forward in the season. Cooley reflected on the team’s progress, stating, “It’s nice to get off on the right foot. It was a great first period. You know, the way we finished the game was obviously really good too. So, there are a lot of key takeaways that we could take moving forward.”
