Sei Young Kim triumphed at the BMW Ladies Championship on October 22, 2023, marking her first LPGA Tour victory in five years. The former major champion secured a decisive four-shot win at Pine Beach Golf Links in South Korea, demonstrating her prowess on home soil. Kim entered the final round with a comfortable lead and maintained her advantage by posting a solid score of 67, which included six birdies and a single bogey.

Kim’s journey to victory was not without its challenges. After an early bogey at the par-three third hole, she quickly rebounded, recording four birdies during a remarkable five-hole stretch starting from the fifth. This allowed her to turn in 33, setting the tone for the rest of her round. She further solidified her lead with back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th holes, ultimately finishing at an impressive 24 under par.

Nasa Hataoka, her closest competitor, also performed admirably, posting a five-under 67 to keep the pressure on Kim. Despite Hataoka’s strong finish, which included birdies on four of her last five holes, she finished six strokes behind. A Lim Kim and Celine Boutier both ended their rounds tied for third, each finishing at 18 under par after strong performances.

This victory at the BMW Ladies Championship is Kim’s 13th on the LPGA Tour since she joined in 2015. It marks a significant milestone, as her previous win was in November 2020 during the inaugural edition of The Annika, formerly known as the Pelican Women’s Championship.

In discussing her performance, Celine Boutier expressed satisfaction with her play, stating, “Pretty happy with the result. I feel like I didn’t really know what to expect coming into the week but very happy to have contended a little bit and give myself a few chances out there, even when it was really windy.”

The defending champion, Hannah Green, also displayed strong form, closing her round with three birdies to finish at six under par, tying for fifth place with Yealimi Noh. Noh, who started the day in second position, slipped back after a final-round score of 70.

Several other players had noteworthy performances as well. The Korean duo of Hye-Jin Choi and Narin An both achieved round-of-the-day scores of 63, securing a share of seventh with American Lindy Duncan. Minjee Lee and Denmark’s Nanna Koerstz Madsen rounded out the top ten, finishing tied in tenth place.

Scottish golfer Gemma Dryburgh concluded her tournament with a four-under 68, placing her in a tie for 19th. Meanwhile, Lottie Woad surged into the top 25, showcasing her talent with seven birdies and a six-under 66.

Looking ahead, the LPGA Tour will remain in South Korea for the upcoming Hanwha Lifeplus International Crown, a team event where Thailand will defend their title. Live coverage begins on Thursday at 03:00 on Sky Sports Mix.
