Former Congo President Joseph Kabila Reemerges in Nairobi

Kabila, who served as president from 2001 until 2019, has consistently denied the allegations against him. In a February opinion piece for the South African newspaper Sunday Times, he expressed his support for the rebels’ actions, further complicating his standing with the current government.

The historical context surrounding Kabila’s presidency is significant. He ascended to power at the age of 29 after the assassination of his father, Laurent Kabila, in 2001.
